Brendan DeBeasi, an engineering veteran with over 20 years of experience, is The Cost Guard. He is an expert at cutting costs while delivering same or better performance. He is a certified Linux Foundation FinOps Practitioner. He aspires to grow the Cost Guard Team, but is currently relegated to referring to himself in the third person.
Throughout my career, I have worked in technical roles across a diverse number of industries. From major league sports to movie distributors, to core internet infrastructure providers I have worked for a diverse array of companies.
I typically worked on greenfield projects. Working individually or with a small team, I would help bootstrap new projects and get them off the ground. After building so many dashboards, admin panels, reports, and widgets, I eventually drifted towards the engineering side of infrastructure.
I really enjoyed working on infrastructure! I was able to build and support the engineering team's development of new projects and features. It is my belief that infrastructure should essentially operate in the background, and not be something that a team thinks about.
Assuming your infrastructure has been configured properly, you are not thinking about it daily, you are also likely not paying attention to the monthly / annual bills that are on autopay. However, those costs are silently eating into your budgets and essentially, your company's profits.
